Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday slammed the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government and said that the Centre was not allowing them to work.
Asking the government not to waste more time of Parliament, he said the opposition should be allowed to raise issues of inflation, farmers, and Pegasus in the House.
The foundation of India’s democracy is that Parliamentarians should be the voice of the people and discuss issues of national importance, the Wayanad MP said, adding, but the Modi government is not letting this to happen.
Taking it to Twitter, Gandhi said, “The foundation of our democracy is that Parliamentarians should be the voice of the people and should discuss issues of national importance. The Modi government is not allowing the opposition to do this work. Don’t waste more time of the Parliament, let them talk about inflation, farmers, and Pegasus.”
The opposition has been continuously demanding a discussion on the repeal of the new farm laws and Pegasus snooping issue in Parliament.
With the opposition demanding a discussion over the Pegasus spyware issue, there continues a deadlock in Parliament and a Supreme Court has monitored probe into it while the Centre denies that it has not done any snooping.
While the opposition members in both houses of Parliament have been giving adjournment notices to allow the Pegasus snooping issue to be discussed, it has been rejected by the chair.
Again on Thursday, Congress and other opposition leaders have also given such notices.
More than 300 verified Indian smart phone numbers were on a list of potential targets for surveillance using Israeli firm NSO’s Pegasus spyware, an international media consortium has reported.
