Covid: Bangladesh continues to keep its borders closed with India till Aug 15

Dhaka: Considering the prevailing Covid situation in India and Bangladesh, the latter has decided to extend the closing of the border area of the country till August 15.

According the local media reports, the decision was taken during the high level meeting convened by Foreign Secretary Masood bin Momen.

The report said that following the increasing cases of Covid in India, Bangladesh government had closed its borders on April 26, however the closure was further extended based on the situation. Now, extending the date, the government has said that the all borders connecting India, will remain closed till August 15.

Meanwhile, Indian Visa Centers in Bangladesh has announced to start functioning from August 11. The officials said that the centre will accept all types of applications except travel visas.

The centre will give medical visa to the residents of Bangladesh for treatment in India. However, a tourist visa will be given till further order.

It may be noted the no visa is given since July 1 itself because of the Covid. However only emergency visas were considered during the lockdown period imposed in Bangladesh.
