India PhD student killed in a road accident in London

An Indian student, who was pursuing her PhD at the London School of Economics was killed in a bicycle accident on March 19.

Cheistha Kochhar was only 33 years old. She hailed from Gurgaon. Kochhar died after she was hit by a lorry while she was on her way to home in the London. According to reports, her husband was also cycling a few meters ahead of her when the accident took place. Despite efforts from police and paramedics, Cheistha passed away at the scene, according to The Times of India.

TOI also added that the driver of the lorry involved was a driver of a garbage vehicle and he cooperated with the authorities during the investigation. No arrests have been made in the case so far and further inquiries are ongoing. Cheistha was born in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly. She has moved to London during September last year for pursuing a Ph.D. degree in organisational behaviour management on a full scholarship. Before her PhD, Cheistha had also been working at the NITI Aayog and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
