Key accused of Hathras Stampede surrenders to police, claims lawyer

They key accused of the Hathras stampede, Devprakash Madhukar has finally surrendered to Uttar Pradesh Police early on Friday.

The UP police had issued a search warrant for the key accused and had claimed ₹1 lakh reward for anyone who would provide details for Madhukar. It should be noted that Madhukar was the organiser of the satsang (a religious prayer meet) which killed as many as 123 people.

According to reports, A. P. Singh, lawyer for self-styled godman Bhole Baba, said that Madhukar was the main organiser of the Hindu religious event on Tuesday, which was attended by about 250,000 people in a village in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh. “He has surrendered from Delhi. We are not seeking an anticipatory bail,” Singh told reporters.

He further added that Madhukar was getting medical attention in a hospital after the stampede. As of now, the Uttar Pradesh police have arrested six people so far and with Madhukar’s surrender, the arrest will rise to seven if the UP police arrests him.
