UP Memorial Scam: ED Targets Major Marble Tycoon, Sets Sights on Former IAS Officer Mohinder Singh

ED Interrogates Major Marble Businessman in Memorial Scam, Tightens Noose on Mohinder Singh

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has interrogated a prominent marble businessman in Lucknow regarding the memorial scam executed during the BSP government. This businessman was brought under scrutiny by the Lucknow police after complaints of non-payment to certain artisans during the previous SP government. Meanwhile, following revelations about the vast assets discovered at former IAS officer Mohinder Singh’s properties, preparations are underway to tighten the noose around him as well.

During the BSP regime, memorials and parks were constructed in the names of prominent figures in Noida and Lucknow, and a Lokayukta investigation revealed a ₹14 billion scam. The then SP government had referred the investigation to the Vigilance department. The ED has since registered cases under the Money Laundering Act against two former ministers and 199 accused individuals.

Sources indicate that ED officials questioned the director of a company that supplied stones for the memorials last week. Now, Mohinder Singh is also set to be questioned in this case, as he was part of the committee responsible for determining the prices of the stones used in the memorials during the BSP government.

After his retirement, the ED and Vigilance notices sent to him returned undelivered due to his untraceable whereabouts. However, during the ED’s recent raid, he was present at his residence in Chandigarh, where he was interrogated for 14 hours. Mohinder’s statements could complicate matters for the key white-collar suspects involved in the memorial scam.
