Mithun Chakraborty Honored with Dadasaheb Phalke Award for Iconic Contribution to Indian Cinema

New Delhi (PTI): Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty, known for his roles in films like Mrigayaa, Disco Dancer, and Agneepath, has been named the recipient of the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India’s highest honor in cinema.

The announcement, made by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, recognizes Chakraborty’s remarkable cinematic journey spanning over four decades.

This accolade follows Chakraborty’s earlier recognition with the Padma Bhushan this year. The award will be presented to the 74-year-old actor at the 70th National Film Awards ceremony on October 8, 2024. His son Namashi expressed pride, calling the award “long overdue.”

Chakraborty, a three-time National Film Award winner, is celebrated for his roles in both Hindi and Bengali cinema, with a career-defining moment in the 1982 hit Disco Dancer.
