Meat thrown in Shiva temple, accused Rajdeep arrested; Today VHP district bandh

Gumla (Jharkhand): Police have arrested Golu, Rajdeep Kumar Thakur, accused in the incident of throwing a piece of meat at the Shiva temple at Teto in Gumla district. On August 14, he brought meat to the temple with the aim of communal riots. Extremist Hindutva organizations had come forward with agitation and tension had arisen. A bandh has been called by the leadership of VHP and Bajrang Dal today in Gumla district. Meanwhile, the accused Rajdeep Kumar Thakur was arrested.

SDPO Manish Chandralal informed that the accused was arrested by a special investigation team formed on the instructions of the SP in the incident of throwing a piece of meat at the temple and breaking the communal harmony. He said that earlier Rajdeep had broken the idol of the same temple and confessed to the crime during interrogation. Police officers including SI Sudama Ram, Prem Sagar Singh, Vivek Chaudhary, Vinod Kumar and Mojmil were also in the team that nabbed the accused. As soon as the incident took place, under the leadership of Manoj Kumar, station in-charge, the meat was removed and cleaned and the temple was washed.

The meat was dumped at a Shiva temple in Toto, 10 km from Gumla. In view of the tense situation, a flag march was conducted under the joint guidance of District Police Force and Rapid Action Force in Gagra, Sisai, Gumla and Toto Police Stations near Toto.

VHP convener Mukesh Singh said in a complaint to the district commissioner that the aim of the attackers was to disrupt worship by throwing forbidden meat at the Shiva temple during the holy month of Hindus. VHP alleged that the Gumla police did not take any action in the incident and that the slaughterhouses were operating illegally. The police are not taking any action in this regard due to political pressure. Action should be taken against the culprits and illegal slaughterhouses should be closed. “The Hindu community is furious,” said Mukesh Singh.
