Outrage in Ujjain as Video of Woman’s Rape on Footpath Goes Viral; Accused Arrested

Bhopal: A disturbing video of a woman being raped on a footpath in broad daylight in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain has sparked widespread outrage. The incident took place in the Koyla Phatak area, where the assailant allegedly forced the woman to drink alcohol before raping her.

A passer-by captured the horrific crime on his mobile phone and uploaded the video to social media, leading to the swift arrest of the accused. Ujjain police, led by SP Pradeep Sharma, apprehended the man, who was a fruit vendor in the area. According to the police, the accused had promised to marry the victim, made her consume alcohol, and then assaulted her while she was semi-conscious. Shockingly, some bystanders chose to record the crime rather than intervene.

The victim, identified as Zabua, was found in poor condition, wandering the Koyla Phatak area, when the accused approached her. He assaulted her on the footpath and threatened her life if she reported the crime.

The opposition has condemned the incident, raising concerns about the law and order situation in the state. Congress state president Jitu Patwari criticized the government, tweeting, “The religious city of Ujjain has been tarnished again. If this is the state of the Chief Minister’s hometown, it’s easy to imagine the rest of the state.”
