Rubble to Rescue: The dramatic story of survival and bravery in Lucknow

“Building Collapse: Screams were heard from under the debris, a horrific scene unfolded as smoke and dust cleared; locals turned saviors”

A building collapse in Lucknow led to chaos, with screams heard from under the debris as the smoke and dust cleared, revealing a horrific scene. Before the police arrived, several locals rushed to the spot and rescued five-six people, saving their lives. These rescuers were nothing short of saviors.

Two men, who were present at the scene, shared their account of the incident and the rescue efforts on Sunday. They described how they received a call and rushed to the spot, pulling out four people from the debris. The police and medical team arrived later, and the rescued individuals were taken to the hospital.

Kalam, a resident of Santkabirnagar, was working in a nearby warehouse when he received a call about the incident. He immediately rushed to the spot with his colleagues and began rescuing those trapped in the initial area of the building. They managed to pull out four people, who were later taken to the hospital by the police and medical team.

Arif, a resident of Sandila, was working in a medicine warehouse when he heard about the incident. He rushed to the spot and, with the help of his colleagues, rescued two people from under the debris. Despite hearing screams from others trapped under the rubble, they were unable to rescue them due to the extensive damage.

The fire department team, led by Chief Fire Officer Mangesh Kumar, arrived at the scene and rescued seven people within minutes. Their timely intervention saved lives. The police, NDRF, and SDRF teams also rescued others from the debris.

The incident highlights the importance of safety audits and structural engineering checks, which were neglected after the Alaya apartment collapse last year. The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has now announced plans to conduct safety checks on buildings, and one building in Transport Nagar was sealed on Sunday due to safety concerns.
