Police Encounter Results in Death of Suspect in Uttarakhand Dera Chief Killing

Suspected Nanakmatta Sahib Gurdwara Dera Kar Seva Chief Killer Fatally Shot in Haridwar Encounter

In the early hours of Tuesday, an encounter between the Special Task Force and police in the Haridwar district resulted in the death of one of the assailants accused of shooting Baba Tarsem Singh last month at the Nanakmatta Sahib Gurdwara. The incident occurred on March 28 in Udham Singh Nagar district.

Authorities reported that during the encounter, one suspect, identified as Amarjeet Singh alias Bittu, was fatally shot, while the other, Sarabjit Singh, managed to evade capture. A pursuit is currently underway to apprehend him.

The confrontation unfolded after the police attempted to halt the suspects, who were riding a motorcycle, in Haridwar’s Bhagwanpur area. However, they disregarded the signal and fled towards Kaliyar, prompting a chase. The ensuing encounter led to Amarjeet Singh sustaining fatal injuries.

Following the incident, Senior Superintendent of Police (Haridwar) Pramendra Doval, accompanied by other officers, arrived at Roorkee Civil Hospital where Amarjeet Singh was declared deceased.

Efforts by teams from the Special Task Force (STF) and local police are ongoing to locate Sarabjit Singh.

In addition to the two assailants, retired IAS officer Harbans Singh Chugh, who heads the Nanakmatta Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee, along with Baba Anup Singh and Pritam Singh Sandhu, vice-president of a regional Sikh outfit, have been implicated in the murder case.
