Congress’s Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge arrive in J&K ahead of assembly elections

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and party president Mallikarjun Kharge arrived in Srinagar on Wednesday for a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, focusing on preparations for the upcoming assembly elections in the Union Territory.

The Congress leaders were greeted with enthusiasm by local residents. While no official meetings were planned for their first day, they are scheduled to hold extensive discussions with Congress party leaders and workers from ten districts in the Kashmir valley on Thursday. These meetings will begin at 10 am, with a media interaction expected to follow.

There is speculation that Gandhi and Kharge might also meet with National Conference (NC) leaders to discuss a potential pre-poll alliance.

However, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee president Tariq Karra emphasised that the visit was arranged well before the announcement of the election schedule and was not specifically aimed at alliance talks.
Following their time in Srinagar, Gandhi and Kharge will head to Jammu to continue their engagements with party members from ten districts in that region.
