Bihar Tragedy: Six People Burnt Alive in Wedding Hall Fire

Police said on Friday that a fire broke out in a wedding hall in Bihar’s Darbanga district, killing six people.

The deceased have been identified as Sunil Paswan (26), Leeladevi (23), Kanchan Devi (26), Siddhanth Kumar (4), Shashank Kumar (3) and Sakshi Kumari (5).

The incident took place at Alinagar under Bahera police station on Thursday around 11.15 pm. It was reported that the mandapam caught fire while bursting firecrackers.

Some items kept inside the mandap helped the fire to spread quickly. Police said that three cows were burnt.

“An investigation has been ordered to find out the exact cause of the fire accident. In the meantime, the district administration is providing all kinds of assistance to the families of the victims as per the disaster management guidelines,” District Collector Rajeev Roshan told PTI.

Senior Superintendent of Police Jagunath Reddy said that fire brigades were sent to the spot as soon as the information about the fire was received. “The fire was brought under control after a while. The bodies have been sent for postmortem,” he said.
