Disaster Relief Fund: Rs.7,532 crore released by the Centre to 22 states

New Delhi: As heavy rains have caused extensive damage in many parts of the country, the Union Finance Ministry on Wednesday released Rs.7,532 crore. This amount was released on the recommendation of the Home Ministry.

The Finance Ministry said in a statement that the guidelines have been relaxed in the wake of heavy rains across the country and funds have been released for immediate assistance to the states without waiting for the utilization certificate of the amount provided to the states in the last financial year.

Central Sarkaar contributes 75% to State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) in general states and 90% in North Eastern and Himalayan states. Funds will be released in two equal annual installments as per the recommendation of the Finance Commission.

As per the guidelines, the funds will be released after receipt of utilization certificate of amount released in previous installment and report from the state government on activities undertaken by SDRF.
