Karnataka Receives ₹3,454 Crore in Drought Relief Aid as Central Government Steps In

After negotiations between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi, the central government has unveiled a relief package totaling ₹3,454 crore to tackle the drought crisis.

This aid, granted under the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF), comes after persistent appeals from the Karnataka government.

Initially seeking ₹18,174 crore last September to combat drought, Karnataka’s efforts faced delays until the state government pursued the matter in the Supreme Court.

During court proceedings, the central government revealed that the Election Commission had authorized the allocation of funds for Karnataka’s drought management. With the Supreme Court’s intervention, the central government has now committed to disbursing the drought relief, officially announced.

Additionally, Tamil Nadu has received ₹275 crore from the central government to address similar challenges.
