TMC removes Kunal Ghosh as Bengal’s general secretary

In one of the recent developments in West Bengal, The Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Wednesday removed former Rajya Sabha member Kunal Ghosh from the post of the party’s state general secretary.

The party also said that if any media houses are found to carry his statements as the official stand of the party, then the party will be forced to take legal action against that particular media house/channel. The decision comes days before West Bengal goes into the third phase of polling on May 13. The TMC leaders, who were aware of the details said that the following action was taken because Ghosh had recently made some comments in public domain which were against two Lok Sabha MPs and candidates. The remarks were against famous actor Deepak Adhikari, who represents Ghatal, and Sudip Bandopadhyay, who is contesting from Kolkata North seat.

“Recently, Mr. Kunal Ghosh has been expressing views that do not align with those of the party. It is important to clarify that these are his personal opinions and should not be attributed to the party. Only statements issued from AITC headquarters should be considered the official position of the party,” TMC Rajya Sabha member Derek O’Brien told media reporters.

“Mr. Ghosh was previously relieved from his role as party spokesperson. Now, he has been removed from the position of General Secretary of the state organization. We urge all media outlets not to conflate his views with those of the party, as doing so may necessitate legal action,” Derek’s statement added.

The TMC had nominated Bandopadhyay, representing Kolkata North since 2009, Tapas Roy who was his rival left the TMC and joined the BJP to contest against him. Roy’s move was thereby supported by Ghosh and he said that Roy had to quit the party because of Bandopadhyay.
