Top Board Exam Performer, Escaped Child Marriage, Aspires to be IPS Officer

In a stirring narrative of perseverance and resolve, S Nirmala, a young resident of Pedda Harivanam in Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh, has clinched the top position in the first-year intermediate board examinations. Despite confronting formidable obstacles and narrowly escaping the specter of child marriage, Nirmala achieved an outstanding score of 95.7%.

Born into a financially disadvantaged family, Nirmala’s parents had wedded her three elder sisters and intended to follow suit with her. Undaunted by familial pressures and economic hardships, Nirmala remained resolute in her educational pursuits.

Even when her parents urged her to forsake schooling due to financial constraints and the absence of a nearby junior college, Nirmala refused to yield. Instead, she sought assistance from local MLA Y Saiprasad Reddy during a community outreach initiative. Moved by her determination, the MLA intervened, and with the collaboration of the district administration, Nirmala was rescued from the brink of child marriage and enrolled in Kasturba Gandhi Balikala Vidyalaya at Aspari.

Despite encountering myriad challenges, Nirmala seized every opportunity to excel academically, ultimately emerging as the foremost performer in her examinations. Her remarkable feat stands as a testament to her unyielding determination and dedication to her education.
