On Saturday, authorities reported that a foreign national from Spain was purportedly subjected to gang rape in Jharkhand’s Dumka district.
The distressing incident unfolded in Kurumahat, situated within the jurisdiction of Hansdiha police station, approximately 300 kilometers away from the state capital Ranchi.
According to Jarmundi Sub Divisional Police Officer Santosh Kumar, the appalling gang rape took place on Friday night. While further details are forthcoming, another official, speaking anonymously, revealed the involvement of seven to eight local youths.
Presently, three arrests have been made, with a search underway for the remaining suspects. The victim has been admitted to a local hospital for medical attention.
It was noted that the Spanish couple had arrived in Dumka from Bangladesh on a two-wheeler and were en route to Bihar and subsequently Nepal.
Notably, Dumka Deputy Commissioner A Dodde and Superintendent of Police Pitamber Singh Kherwar did not respond to repeated calls from PTI.
This incident coincided with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Jharkhand, where he expressed grave concerns regarding law and order issues and extortion in the state.
