Huge revenue for BMTC, sharp increase in passenger numbers even amid Shakti Yojana

Bengaluru: The Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) is witnessing a significant surge in revenue and passenger numbers, even amid the implementation of the Shakti Yojana. The corporation, which previously earned ₹4.5 crore per month, is now generating ₹6 crore monthly, thanks to increased passenger traffic and expanded bus services.

In response to the growing demand, BMTC has deployed an additional 200 new buses across various city routes, bringing the total number of operational routes to over 2,000. According to Prabhakar, Chief Traffic Manager of BMTC’s Operations Department, more than 1 lakh passengers are now opting to pay for their daily commute, in addition to those using passes and free tickets.

Currently, 5,700 buses operate from 50 depots across Bengaluru, covering up to 1 lakh kilometers daily. Over 50 lakh people rely on BMTC services each day, contributing to the corporation’s increasing revenue, which further bolsters the success of the Shakti Yojana. The rising passenger satisfaction reflects the positive impact of these developments.
