Karnataka CM Accuses Governor of Discrimination in Prosecution of Former CM Kumaraswamy

Koppal: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has accused the Governor of bias, alleging that permission for the prosecution of former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy was granted without an investigative report. Speaking at the Ginigera Airstrip in Koppal, Siddaramaiah questioned whether this action represented discrimination.

The controversy centers around Kumaraswamy’s alleged involvement in a 2007 mining lease case. The Karnataka Lokayukta has renewed its request to file a chargesheet against Kumaraswamy, who is currently the Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel. He faces allegations of bypassing Mineral Concession Rules while granting a mining lease to a private firm. Kumaraswamy, who was arrested in 2015 but later released on bail, claims the renewed request is politically motivated, linked to his criticism of a “transfer racket” in the state.

Addressing rumors that Kumaraswamy might face arrest, Siddaramaiah stated that if it becomes necessary, the arrest will be made without hesitation. However, he clarified that such a situation hasn’t yet arisen and expressed concern over the Governor potentially authorizing an investigation.

Siddaramaiah also mentioned that despite the Lokayukta SIT submitting an investigation report and seeking the Governor’s permission for prosecution, no action has been taken, prompting the SIT to reapply.

On development in Koppal, Siddaramaiah assured that the government prioritizes the district’s welfare without political bias. He also mentioned that a letter has been sent to the central government, urging immediate action on support prices for key crops.
