Muslim Leaders Oppose Waqf Bill Amendments, Meet Congress MP in Ajmer

A group of Muslim leaders affiliated with the Congress met party MP Imran Masood in Ajmer on Sunday to express their strong opposition to the proposed amendments to the Waqf Bill. Masood, a member of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) reviewing the bill, received a memorandum outlining the community’s concerns.

Introduced in Lok Sabha on August 8th, the Waqf (Amendment) Bill has faced significant controversy. While the government maintains that the amendments do not aim to interfere with mosque operations, opposition parties have criticized the bill as discriminatory against Muslims and a violation of constitutional principles.

The Muslim delegation emphasized that Waqf is a deeply religious matter for the community and urged the government to refrain from meddling in their religious affairs. In their memorandum addressed to JPC Chairman Jagdambika Pal, they stated, “Waqf is an entirely religious matter, and any interference in it would be unacceptable.”

The delegation included prominent Muslim figures such as Ghulam Mustafa Chishti, Muzaffar Bharti, Rab Nawaz Jafri, Manzoor Ali, Ashraf Buland Khan, Ajmat Khan, and Wahid Mohammad.
