Amit Shah in Parliment: Centre ready to Discuss Manipur Issue

Union Home Minister Amit Shah agreed to Manipur discussion in the monsoon session of Parliment today. Amidst the mounting protests against the horrendous video showing a mob exposing two women in Manipur unclothed and being mercilessly paraded, the Opposition has been demanding a discussion regarding the ongoing violence in Manipur.
In his brief address in the Lok Sabha, Mr.Shah exhorted the Opposition leaders to carry out a debate on the issue. Mr.Shah also stressed the importance of uncovering the truth in the Manipur Issue.
Mr.Shah has made these remarks after the House has been adjourned thrice over the Manipur situation. He pointed out when the session in Parliment commenced at 2.30 pm, political leaders from both the sides wanted a discussion on the Manipur situation. However the opposition MPs continued protesting ending with the Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla discontinuing the proceedings for the day.
On Thurday’s parliment Monsoon Session, around 15 MPs from the Opposition submitted adjournment notices and urged discussion on the ongoing Northeastern violence. Despite the Centre agreeing to discuss the matter, disagreement over technicality created havoc during the session.
The Opposion demanded that the Manipur matter be discussed under Rule 267, under which all businesses under the House are suspended and a specific matter is discussed. The Centre on the other hand only agreed for a discussion under Rule 176 which limits for a discussion of short duration.
The BJP countered the Opposition’s charge on assault and violence against women in Manipur and has demanded discussion on cruelty against women across all states including the Opposition ruled Rajisthan and West Bengal.
