Black fungus infection declared an epidemic in Rajasthan

Mucormycosis also known as Black fungus infection, which mainly affects people recovering from Covid-19 has been announced an epidemic in Rajasthan, officials said on Wednesday.

At present, the state has about 100 black fungus patients and a separate ward has been built at Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital in Jaipur for treating them.

According to a notification released by state’s Principal Health Secretary Akhil Arora, Mucormycosis has been declared as an epidemic and a notifiable disease in the state under the Rajasthan Epidemic Act 2020, .

He said that steps were taken to ensure coherent and combined treatment of coronavirus and the black fungus.

As per the experts, people with diabetes are more likely prone to develop the Mucormycosis infection.
