Three Muslim youths were lynched by Hindu mob in Tripura on suspicion of cattle theft, Police say no arrests have been made yet

On Sunday, Three men are suspected the alleged ‘smuggling’ cattle was lynched in Tripura’s Khowai district, police said.

They said, that the deceased have been identified as Zayed Hussein (28), Billal Miah (30) and Saiful Islam (18), all residents of Sonamura sub-division of Sepahijala district.

At around 4.30 am, villagers of Namanjopura spotted a mini-truck heading towards Agartala with five cattle, Superintendent of Police Kiran Kumar said. He also said, Later, a mob stopped the vehicle and they chased them near North Maharanipur, 10 km away.

The villagers started beating three people with “deadly weapons” on the mini-truck, lynched Zayed and Billal, while Saiful managed to escape, he said.

The mob was captured and slaughtered by another man in the Mungiakami tribal area near North Maharanipur, the official added.

Kumar said police immediately rushed to both the places and took them first to a nearby primary health centres and then to the government medical college “Govind Ballabh Pant” (GBP) Hospital in Agartala where the doctors present declared that they were dead.

He said: A case has been registered and an investigation is underway. No arrests have been made yet, police said.

According to other report’s; Two separate cases of cattle smuggling and mob lynching were registered at Champahower and Kayanpur police stations. No arrests have been made yet.
