Congress Opts Out of UP Assembly Bypolls, Pledges Support to INDIA Bloc Candidates

New Delhi (PTI): The Congress announced it will not field candidates in the nine upcoming Assembly by-polls in Uttar Pradesh, choosing instead to support nominees from the INDIA bloc. The party emphasized that the political climate demands a focus on protecting the Constitution and promoting harmony over individual party gains.

Congress leaders, including Avinash Pande and UP chief Ajay Rai, stated that party workers would work to secure the victory of the Samajwadi Party or other INDIA bloc candidates. The decision was made after consultations with top party leadership and the alliance, prioritizing the defeat of the BJP to impact the 2027 Assembly polls.

The by-polls will take place on November 13, with results expected on November 23.
