A day after Calcutta HC order, CBI creates e-mail ID for victims of Sandeshkhali

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday created an email ID for receiving the complaints from the victims of Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas in West Bengal. “A dedicated email ID [email protected] has been created on the orders of the Calcutta high court so that villagers may lodge their complaints directly with the agency,” a senior CBI officer announced on Thursday.

The official also added that the Calcutta high court, which had earlier asked the CBI for investigating all the allegations which were put up by the residents of that place, instructed the federal agency to set up a dedicated email ID to ensure their confidentiality.

A division bench of chief justice TS Sivagnanam and justice Hiranmay Bhattacharyya heard a suo motu case and passed the high court order based on the alleged offences. The offences ranged from land-grab and exploitation to sexual harassment and rape. Various petitions were submitted in order to seek the transfer of the following investigation to the CBI.

While this issue has been a topic for every political team as leaders from opposition parties are busy levelling charges against other parties. It will be very crucial for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, 2024. The BJP promptly hit back. “Being a minister, he has maligned the state police. This is a self goal. During bad times people make such self goals. People fear and respect those police officers who are impartial,” state BJP president, Sukanta Majumdar said.
