CBI Questions Doctor in Connection with Rape and Murder of Woman Doctor at RG Kar Medical College

Kolkata (PTI): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday interrogated Dr. Birupaksha Biswas, a doctor allegedly close to the arrested former principal of RG Kar Medical College, Sandip Ghosh, as part of their investigation into the rape and murder of a woman doctor at the college.

Biswas, recently transferred by the West Bengal Health Department from Burdwan Medical College to a remote hospital in South 24 Parganas, appeared before CBI officers at their Salt Lake office. Biswas, reportedly linked to a ‘North Bengal lobby’ within medical colleges, was present at RG Kar Hospital on August 9, when the woman’s body was discovered.

The ‘North Bengal lobby’ refers to a group of doctors accused of threatening students at state-run medical institutions across West Bengal. Biswas is being questioned about his unexplained presence at the hospital that day and other matters related to the case.

An FIR has also been filed against Biswas and two other doctors, Avik De, and Ranjit Saha, for allegedly threatening students. They face charges under Section 351 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita for assault and intimidation.
