Ex-official of RG Kar files petition against principal of Medical College

A former deputy superintendent of RG Kar Medical College, Akhtar Ali, has filed a petition with the Calcutta High Court requesting an Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigation into alleged financial misconduct by Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of the institution.

Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj has permitted Ali to submit the petition, which follows his earlier claims of serious allegations against Ghosh. In an interview with India Today, Ali accused Ghosh of being involved in the illicit trade of unclaimed dead bodies and trafficking biomedical waste and medical supplies to Bangladesh.

The Kolkata Police have already initiated an investigation into the alleged financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. This probe began with the formation of a four-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to scrutinize the financial activities under Ghosh’s administration. An officer confirmed that Ghosh will be summoned for questioning soon.

In a related development, the ongoing protests by doctors and students at RG Kar Medical College have seen a new development. On Wednesday, they welcomed a court order to deploy Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) at the hospital.

This decision comes in the wake of a violent attack on the facility by an unidentified mob on August 15, and the recent tragic incident involving the rape and murder of a trainee doctor.
