Bangladesh Tribunal Issues Arrest Warrant Against Sheikh Hasina for Alleged Crimes Against Humanity

Dhaka (PTI): Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal on Thursday issued arrest warrants against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 45 others, including prominent Awami League leaders, over alleged crimes against humanity during the recent mass student movement.

The tribunal, chaired by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Majumdar, issued the warrants following petitions filed by Chief Prosecutor Muhammad Tajul Islam. The court has ordered the authorities to arrest and produce all 46 accused, including Hasina, by November 18.

This development comes after Bangladesh’s interim government announced plans to prosecute those involved in the deaths during the violent protests against the Hasina-led government, which claimed over 600 lives, including more than 230 during the student-led demonstrations against the controversial job quota system.
