Food poisoning: More than 300 female students of Aligarh Muslim University are sick

An incident where more than 300 female students fell ill after consuming poisoned food took place in the hostel of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) in Uttar Pradesh.

A special dinner was organized at Begum Azizan Nisa Hall on the occasion of AMU Founder Sir Syed Ahmed Khan Day on Tuesday (October 18) night at the University. After eating food in the hostel, the female students fell ill. The girl students were admitted to Aligarh JN Medical College and AMU Hospital.

University official Mohammad Wasim Ali said that a three-member committee has been instructed to investigate the incident that caused the female students to fall ill.

“A special dinner was organized for the girls staying in the Begum Azizhan Nisa room of the University on Tuesday night on the occasion of the birthday of the founder of AMU. “More than 300 female students have complained of stomach ache and vomiting after consuming food in this dormitory,” said an AMU official.

“The students were taken to JN Medical College and Hospital in Aligarh. Those with mild symptoms were given primary care there. But those who were extremely sick were admitted to the hospital and given further treatment,” informed the officials.

Begum Azizan Nisa Hall is a women’s dormitory of Aligarh Muslim University, which accommodates around 1,500 students.
