Actor Shah Rukh Khan responsible for release of detainees in Qatar: Subramanian Swamy’s Controversial Tweet

A tweet by senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy has created a lot of discussion on social media, even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for his two-day visit to the United Arab Emirates and Qatar on Tuesday.

Prime Minister Modi tweeted today about his two-day visit. In this tweet, in the next two days, I will be visiting UAE and Qatar to attend various events. This will strengthen India’s bilateral relations with these countries. This is my 7th visit to UAE after assuming office as Prime Minister. I am also going to meet Amir Tamim bin Hamad of Qatar,” he shared all the details.

Senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy has responded to this tweet and demanded that “Prime Minister Modi should take Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan along with him when he meets the Amir of Qatar.”

Explaining the reason for this, Subramanian Swamy said, “The officials of the Ministry of External Affairs and the National Security Agency failed to convince the Sheikhs of Qatar regarding the release of eight retired Indian Navy officers who were sentenced to death for espionage in Qatar. After that, Modi asked Shahrukh Khan to hold talks with the Sheikhs of Qatar. Retired Navy officers released as a result of Shah Rukh Khan’s talks. So, during the visit of the Amir of Qatar, take Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan along with him.

This tweet has now caused a huge debate on social media. However, neither actor Shah Rukh Khan nor the Ministry of External Affairs has given any statement about this.

After this statement given by Subramanian Swamy, the photos of actor Shahrukh Khan walking with Qatari sheikhs also spread and went viral.

Modi thanked the released officers
Eight retired Indian Navy officers who were sentenced to death for espionage in Qatar were released on Monday, seven of whom had already returned to India, the Ministry of External Affairs said.

While talking to the media at the Delhi airport, he thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Indian government for working diplomatically and personally to release him. They chanted ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ happily on the airport premises.

What is the case?
The eight retired officers, Captain Navtej Singh Gill, Captain Birendra Kumar Verma, Captain Saurabh Vasishth, Commander Amit Nagpal, Commander Purnendu Tiwari, Commander Sugunakar Pakal, Commander Sanjeev Gupta, and Sailor Ragesh, are expected to be extradited by October 2022 after accusing Israel of spying on Qatar’s submarine program. He was arrested in Qatar. After that, the Qatar court sentenced him to death.

This led to a huge debate and the Indian government intervened soon after. It was later commuted to a long term of imprisonment.
