Kangana Ranaut Retracts Remarks on Reinstating Farm Laws, Clarifies They Were Personal Views

Shimla (PTI): BJP MP Kangana Ranaut on Wednesday withdrew her statement advocating for the return of the three farm laws, which were repealed in 2021. She clarified that her comments reflected her personal opinion, not the party’s stance.

Ranaut expressed regret for her remarks, acknowledging that they may have disappointed many. In a post on X, she wrote, “My views on Farmers Laws are personal and they don’t represent the party’s stand on those Bills.” The Himachal Pradesh BJP has also distanced itself from her statement.

In a video shared on X, the Mandi MP emphasized her respect for Prime Minister Modi’s decision to repeal the laws, acknowledging his sensitivity toward the issue. “I regret if I left anybody disappointed with my words and opinions. I take my words back,” she added.

Ranaut’s original comments, made during an event in Mandi, suggested that the farm laws had faced resistance only in a few states and should be reinstated for the benefit of farmers. Her remarks drew sharp criticism from the Congress, which alleged that the ruling party was attempting to revive the controversial laws ahead of the Haryana assembly polls.

The farm laws were withdrawn by the Modi government in 2021 following widespread protests, particularly in Haryana and at Delhi borders.
