SIO Hyderabad Raises Alarm Over Privacy Intrusions by Corporates and State

Hyderabad: The Students Islamic Organisation (SIO) Hyderabad hosted a roundtable discussion titled “Security & Surveillance: Challenges to Privacy and Citizen Rights in Telangana,” addressing growing concerns over state and corporate intrusions into privacy. The event, held at JS Krishna Murthy Hall, FTCCI, Redhills, featured prominent activists, legal experts, and civil society members.

Advocate Abdus Sami, SIO Hyderabad Secretary, opened the session by highlighting the increasing surveillance citizens face. Activists like SQ Masood emphasized transparency and accountability, while Srinivas Kodali warned against “surveillance capitalism,” where personal data is exploited for profit.

Journalist Naseer Giyas and activist Khaleda Parveen discussed the impact of mass surveillance on human rights, particularly on marginalized communities.

Senior Advocate Shafiq ur Rahman Mahajir stressed the need for judicial oversight to protect civil liberties. At the same time, Laeeq Ahmed Khan Aqil, Assistant National Secretary of JIH, called for mass awareness and proactive citizen involvement to combat surveillance risks.

The session ended with an open discussion on privacy solutions, urging collective action against the growing surveillance threat in Telangana.
