Vinesh Phogat Secures Victory in Julana with Over 6,000 Votes, Revives Congress’ Winning Streak After 19 Years

Former Olympian and wrestler-turned-politician, Vinesh Phogat, has claimed victory in the Julana constituency in Haryana’s Jind district, winning by over 6,000 votes. Running on a Congress ticket, Phogat’s win marks the party’s first triumph in Julana since 2005.

Phogat, who entered politics last month along with fellow Olympian Bajrang Punia, was up against strong contenders, including BJP’s Yogesh Bairagi, JJP’s Amarjeet Dhanda, and AAP’s wrestler Kavita Dalal. Her success brings the Congress back into the spotlight in Julana after nearly two decades.

Phogat’s entry into politics followed her leadership in the wrestlers’ protest against former WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. With this electoral win, Phogat aims to push for service and justice in her constituency.
