Akhilesh Yadav Unveils Alliance Plan: SP to Fight Elections Together

Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav has shed light on the India alliance’s future, indicating that the party will contest upcoming elections together with like-minded parties. Addressing the media, Yadav stated that the alliance will endure and emphasized the SP’s commitment to collaborative efforts.

Yadav’s remarks come amidst speculation about the alliance’s status, particularly regarding the SP-Congress partnership in Uttar Pradesh. The SP had recently announced six candidates for upcoming by-elections, sparking rumors of a rift with Congress.

Yadav’s statement suggests that the SP may cede some seats to Congress in the remaining four constituencies. He reiterated the party’s focus on social movements and the Progressive Democratic Alliance (PDA), comprising backward, Dalit, and minority communities.

The SP’s national convention had earlier emphasized the importance of PDA. Yadav also undertook a PDA Yatra before the 2022 elections. On Jayaprakash Narayan’s birth anniversary, Yadav paid floral tributes to Narayan’s statue on a PDA Rath (chariot), reinforcing the party’s commitment to PDA.

Despite heavy police deployment, SP workers gathered outside the party office, and Yadav addressed them briefly. The police later removed some barricades as the crowd dispersed.

The SP has adopted an aggressive stance, both within and outside the legislature, following the previous Lok Sabha election results. The party aims to maintain its momentum on the ground.
