UP Govt Under Fire: High Court Questions Yogi Admin’s Intent to Follow Supreme Court Orders

The Allahabad High Court’s Lucknow bench criticized the Yogi government over demolition notices issued in Bahraich violence. The court granted two days to respond.

A PIL challenged demolition notices issued to alleged encroachers in Bahraich. The state government opposed it, citing lack of locus standi. The court gave two days to file objections.

Justice AR Masoodi and Justice Subhash Vidyarthi heard the PIL filed by Association for Protection of Civil Rights’ eastern UP vice-president. It sought cancellation of demolition notices issued on October 17.

The PIL alleged targeted demolition of a specific community’s structures, despite no encroachment. The state government argued notices were issued for authorized constructions and cannot be challenged through PIL.

The court sought responses from the state government and those receiving demolition notices. Earlier, the court ordered the government to provide information.

The court stated, “There’s no reason to believe UP Govt won’t follow SC orders.” The SC had ruled on demolition cases on September 17.
