New Delhi: As the results of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections unfolded, social media platforms were flooded with cartoons and memes reflecting the changing political landscape in India.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which had achieved a sweeping victory in 2019, experienced a significant setback this time, with its seat count dropping from 303 to 240, according to data released by the Election Commission.
The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) also saw a decline, securing 292 seats compared to the 353 seats it had won in the previous general elections.
In contrast, the Congress party showed notable improvement, winning 99 seats compared to 52 in 2019. The combined opposition, represented by the INDIA bloc, managed to secure 232 seats.
With the BJP falling short of a majority on its own, it now seeks support from its allies to form the government. Crucially, the Janata Dal (United) led by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar emerged as a key ally for the BJP, securing 12 seats.
