10 people died due to electrocution on the way to pour water in Shiv Mandir

10 pilgrims died due to electrocution in their car while going to pour water on Shiva’s head in Jalpesh temple. 16 injured have been shifted to Jalpaiguri Super Specialty Hospital. Initial speculation is that the accident was caused by a short circuit from the car’s generator.
All the accident victims are residents of Sheetalkuchi, Cooch Behar, West Bengal. All families have been informed. Police have started an investigation.
A group of 27 pilgrims from Shitalakuchi in Cooch Behar were traveling in a pick-up van to the Shiva temple at Jalpesh in Jalpaiguri. DJ was also playing in the car. The incident took place after the pilgrims’ car crossed the Dharla river bridge in Changra Bandha.

Seeing several pilgrims unconscious, the driver took the pick-up van to Changra Bandha Hospital. 10 people were declared dead there. According to the injured pilgrims, this incident happened due to a short circuit from the generator of the car.

Mathabhanga Additional Superintendent of Police Amit Verma said that the generator in the car was playing DJ. The incident is initially believed to have occurred due to a short circuit in the generator. After that incident, when everyone was brought to Changra Bandha Hospital, the doctor declared 10 dead. 16 injured have been shifted to Jalpaiguri Super Specialty Hospital.The vehicle has been impounded. The driver is absconding.
