Gutka advertisement case: Notice to Bollywood actor Shahrukh, Akshay, Ajay Devgan

Responding to the contempt petition, the central government has issued notices to actors Akshay Kumar, Shah Rukh Khan, and Ajay Devgan for advertising to gutka companies, the Allahabad court told the Lucknow bench.

The Center’s counsel told the High Court on Friday that the same matter is being heard in the Supreme Court and the urgent petition should be dismissed. After hearing the submission, the bench fixed the hearing for May 9, 2024.

A bench headed by Justice Rajesh Singh had earlier directed the central government to decide on the representation of the petitioners, who are famous actors who have received top awards from the government and are advertising for gutka companies. In this context, the central government has suggested that action should be taken against them.

The petitioner argued that despite submitting a request to the government on October 22, no action was taken. After hearing the contempt petition, the High Court issued a notice to the Cabinet Secretary of the Central Government.

On Friday, Deputy Solicitor General SP Pandey told the High Court that the Centre had issued show cause notices to Akshay Kumar, Shah Rukh Khan, and Ajay Devgan.

Amitabh Bachchan has sent a legal notice to a gutka company, the court was told. Their ad will be shown even if they have already canceled their contract.
