Iranian commandos on Saturday seized an Israel-based cargo ship carrying 17 Indian crew members.
A video of members of Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard landing from a helicopter and reportedly seizing the MSC Aris in the Strait of Hormuz is currently circulating on social media.
Tensions between Iran and Israel have risen since the attack on the former consulate in the Syrian capital Damascus earlier this month. Iran blamed Israel for the attack. 12 people died in this attack.
Iran has vowed to retaliate for the attack. Iran has launched a drone attack on Israel after US President Joe Biden said that there is a possibility of Iran attacking Israel. Now the cargo ship has been seized.
The vessel belongs to London-based Zodiac Maritime. Zodiac Maritime is part of Israeli billionaire Eyal Ofer’s Zodiac Group. MSC admitted that the ship was under Iranian control and said there were 25 crew members on board.
Sources in New Delhi said there were 17 Indian nationals on board and authorities are in touch with Iran and the Iranian ambassador for the safety and early release of the Indians. India has recently advised against travel to Iran and Israel.
