Lok Sabha Elections 2024: BJP announces Sandeshkhali survivor Rekha Patra from Basirhat seat

Lok Sabha Elections are approaching and the central ruling government is trying its best to take all possible political steps and moves to remain in power, be it raiding opposition parties residence or now electing a survivor from Sandeshkhali region of West Bengal.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded Rekha Patra as its candidate from the Basirhat constituency in West Bengal for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Patra has been one of the women, who was a survivor of violence in the Sandeshkhali area of the state. It is also known that Patra was the first woman to file a case in the Sandeshkhali incident. After being elected as the contestant from Basirhat, Patra said, “I want to thank PM Modi for the candidature (from Basirhat for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls). I will raise my voice for the Sandeshkhali victims…”

Meanwhile,on the other hand, in response to the Sandeshkhali controversy, the Trinamool Congress has withdrawn the name of Tollywood actress, MP Nusrat Jahan from the candidacy for the Basirhat Lok Sabha seat. Instead, the party has decided to nominate Nurul Islam to contest in her place.
