North Korea conducts war drills in response to US military drills

SEOUL: North Korea has conducted a military command exercise with the aim of ‘occupying South Korean territory’ in response to the joint military exercise between South Korea and the US.

North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, who visited the General Staff Training Command Post of the Korean People’s Army (KPA), personally supervised the drill, the news agency reported, citing the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

North Korea has said it has conducted a military command drill involving the entire army in response to provocative and dangerous joint military exercises between South Korea and the United States.

The military drills between South Korea and the US will end today. The exercise started on August 21. On Wednesday, the Allies held a joint air exercise.

North Korea said the exercise aims to repulse the enemy’s sudden armed attack and organize a full counter-attack to occupy half of South Korea’s territory.

Kim has stressed the possibility of a massive attack by enemy forces if a war breaks out.

North Korea has called for strengthening its military power, including its naval forces, as South Korea, the US, and Japan agreed to boost their security cooperation to counter North Korea’s nuclear and missile threats.
