Chhattisgarh Police Order Probe into Video Showing Hindu Groups Pledge to Economically Boycott Muslims

The Chhattisgarh Police on Friday has ordered a probe into a video clip, which shows Hindu groups taking an oath to economically boycott the Muslim community.

A video has been circulating on social media where hundreds of people from right-wing groups are heard taking pledge against boycotting Muslims, economically.

The video is from a village in Surguja district where a speaker administers oath and people heard repeating it, “From today, we Hindus take oath that we will not buy goods from any Muslim shopkeepers.”

“We Hindus will not sell or rent our land to any Muslim. And if we’ve rented any land to Muslims, then we’ll take it back. We Hindus will not work with Muslims.”

The police said that they are looking for the people who went to the village and gathered residents to take the anti-Muslim pledge, as per reports by Hindustan Times.

Talking to HT, Surguja Collector Sanjeev Jha said that the video surfaced after a recent communal clash in the region, in which the police have booked the accused persons.

Some people took advantage of the incident and provoked the villagers at Kundi Kala to take the pledge against Muslims, Assistant Police Superintendent Vivek Shukla told PTI.

He added, “We are trying to identify those who administered the oath to the gathering.”
