Day after raids at offices, Income Tax dept reaches Sonu Sood’s home

A day after Income Tax Department conducted a survey at the offices of Bollywood actor Sonu Sood on Wednesday, the officials reached his home on Thursday morning, news agency PTI reported.

In connection with an alleged tax evasion probe, the IT deptartment had carried out raids on the premises of bollywood actor in Mumbai and some other places.

The action is being conducted in nearly half a dozen locations in the metropolitan city and Lucknow, according to reports.

However, it was not immediately clear if the action was being undertaken at actor’s residence too. A real estate deal is also under the scanner of the taxmen, they said.

Sonu Sood grabbed the national spotlight for helping migrants reach their home states during the nationwide lockdown imposed in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic last year.

He had arranged buses, trains and even flights to take hundreds of migrants, stranded and helpless to their home towns. During the second wave of the pandemic earlier this year, he organised oxygen for Covid patients.

Recently, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had declared that 48-year-old Sood will be the brand ambassador of the Aam Aadmi Party government’s ‘Desh ka mentors’ programme which had spurred rumours of political debut, perhaps in next year’s Punjab election as an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate.

Showing support to Sood and tagging a news report of the IT department action, Kejriwal tweeted, “There are millions of difficulties on the path of truth, but the truth always wins. With Sonu Sood ji, there are prayers of lakhs of families of India who got Sonu ji’s support in difficult times.”
