Boycott’ of Dalits: NCHRO Release Fact-finding Report on Dalit Atrocity in Haryana

The National Confederation of Human Rights Organisations (NCHRO) on October 3 had visited the Bhoond village in the Haryana’s Panchkula district with its fact-finding team where an inter-caste marriage has led to a mass boycott of the Dalit community in the village.

The human rights organisation on October 13 conducted a webinar on Google Meet on the same topic, and released the fact-finding report.

The webinar began with Ishu Jaiswal, coordinator of the Delhi chapter of the organisation, introducing the case and the speakers. Chhatra Ekta Manch’s Manisha, a part of the fact-finding team also spoke in detail about the case, and emphasised on the importance of land rights for Dalits, who hold little to no land in Haryana. She further mentioned the way in which women are seen as the “honour” of a community, something that happened in this case as well.

The Delhi General Secretary of NCHRO Azam Khan spoke about the visit of the fact-finding team to the village. He spoke about the responses he received from the villagers and expressed condemnation of the boycott.

Advocate Amit Srivastav, President of Delhi chapter, NCHRO, also spoke about the issue of caste atrocities and other atrocities going on in India and spoke about the need to come together against such cases.

After a brief question and answer session, the webinar ended. Ishu Jaiswal gave a vote of thanks to all the speakers and everybody who was present in the NCHRO webinar.
