Suicide attack on Pak-Afghan border: 24 including security personnel killed

Islamabad: 24 people, including security personnel, were killed and many others injured in a suicide bomb attack in northwest Pakistan today (Tuesday), officials said.

The incident took place in the Dera Ismail Khan district on the border with Afghanistan, security officials told Reuters.

Media reported that Islamist militants rammed an explosives-laden truck into a police station.

Defense Department official Aijaz Mehmood said that many people were injured in the attack and the condition of some is critical.

Pakistan Interior Minister Sarfaraz Bugti condemned the attack. He also expressed his condolences to the family members of the deceased.

Tehreek-e-Jihad Pakistan (TJP), which is affiliated with Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a newly emerged party in Pakistan, claimed responsibility for the attack. It also claimed that the attack was aimed at the Pakistan Army.
