Gauri Lankesh’s Alleged Killers Welcomed by Hindutva Groups After Release on Bail

Vijayapura, Karnataka (PTI): Parashuram Waghmore and Manohar Yadave, two of the key accused in the 2017 murder of journalist Gauri Lankesh, were given a warm welcome by Hindutva activists upon their release on bail. Along with six others, they were released from jail on October 11.

Upon their arrival in Vijayapura, Hindutva supporters escorted the accused to a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, where they were draped in saffron shawls and garlanded. The event was marked by chants of “Bharat Mata ki Jai” and “Sanatana Dharma Ki Jai,” celebrating their return.

The release and subsequent felicitation have sparked outrage, given the nature of the accusations against the men, with Gauri Lankesh’s murder being a high-profile case tied to growing concerns over attacks on free speech in India.
