Hazra Shifa, one of the petitioners in the hijab ban case, has alleged that her brother was attacked by a mob of right-wing members, for her decision to wear a hijab.
According to sources, 50-60 people attacked Hotel Bismilla located at Malpe, Udupi at around 9:30 pm on Monday.
Police have visited the site and inquiry is going on.
Saif, 20 was attacked at Bismillah hotel in Udupi’s Malpe port at around 9 pm Monday night.
Tagging the Udupi police, she tweeted at midnight, “My brother was brutally attacked by a mob. Just because I continue to stand for My #Hijab which is MY RIGHT. Our property were ruined as well. Why?? Can’t I demand my right? Who will be their next victim? I demand action to be taken against the Sangh Parivar goons.”
Nearly 70-100 perpetrators pelted stones at the hotel, which belongs to the petitioners father Hyder Ali. The mob assaulted his son after a heated argument erupted between the both.
Malpe police rushed to the spot and dispersed the mob. The police have registered a case.
Currently, Saif has been admitted to a private hospital in Udupi and is undergoing a treatment.
Shifa is one among the six Muslim students of Udupi’s Government Pre-University College for Girls, who have been agitating since December last year when they were prevented from wearing hijab. They have filed a petition in the Karnataka High Court, saying that the institutions are discriminating them and other Muslim students by denying them to wear a hijab.
