Karnataka: Dalit man murdered by Bajrang Dal man

A 40-year-old Dalit man was dragged and beaten by a Hindutva leader in Dakshina Kannada’s Dharmasthala. He succumbed to his injuries and died the next day. A case has been registered at Dharmasthala police station.

A 45-second CCTV video has been circulating on social media, in which Dinesh, a Dalit youth, was dragged and beaten by Bajrang Dal leader Krishna. He was assaulted over an alleged property issue.

Krishna admitted the victim Dinesh to the Venlak Hospital in Mangalore and lied to the doctor saying he fell from a stairway and was injured. But Dinesh, who suffers from stomach injuries died at 2.30 am on the morning of February 25.

The deceased’s mother, Padmavati, lodged a complaint at the Dharmasthala police station. The police have registered a case with the Dalit Violence Prevention Act. The trial is ongoing and so far the accused has not been arrested.

The accused Krishna is said to be the brother of Bhaskar Dharmasthala, the local convener of the Bajrang Dal group.
