Karnataka Government Launches ‘Madrasa Plus’ Scheme to Bring Mainstream Education to Madrasa Students

Bengaluru: In a significant step towards empowering minority students, the Karnataka government has introduced the ‘Madrasa Plus’ scheme, designed to provide mainstream education to students enrolled in madrasas.

Spearheaded by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, and Minister for Minority Welfare Zameer Ahmed Khan, the initiative aims to balance religious education with formal academic learning.

Under this scheme, 5,000 students from 100 madrasas across the state will now receive education equivalent to Class 10. Many of these students, who have either never attended school or dropped out, will be offered the opportunity to continue their religious studies while preparing for the Pre-University Course (PUC) after completing their secondary education.

The program is being implemented by the Shaheen Group of Institutions, with 15 years of experience in educational outreach.

The government is ensuring full support with trained teachers, books, computers, and other necessary equipment to facilitate this blended learning approach. For the first six months, the students will focus on foundational subjects like language and mathematics. Following this, they will complete their Class 10 education through the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS).

This initiative is seen as a transformative effort by the government, with officials like Hon’ble Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Hon’ble Deputy CM DK Shivakumar, Hon’ble Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan, Shri Manoz Jain, Secretary Minority Welfare Department, Jeelani Mokashi Director, Directorate of Minorities and Dr. Abdul Qadeer, Chairman of Shaheen Group Of Institutions playing key roles in its success.

This program is expected to open doors for thousands of madrasa students, offering them a brighter future by blending traditional and modern education.
