Mysuru gangrape case: DGP Sood confirms 5 arrested, 1 absconding

Five people, including a juvenile have been arrested on Saturday in connection with the Mysuru gang rape case, while one accused is still absconding, Karnataka Director General of Police (DGP) Praveen Sood said. The arrested are labourers from Tamil Nadu, he added.

At a press conference, the DGP confirmed the report saying, “Seven teams of police were formed to trace the accused. All of them all from Tamil Nadu and are labourers who had come to the local vegetable mandi. There are six accused in the case, five have been arrested so far. One of them was a juvenile who is 17 years old,” he was quoted as saying by newspaper Udayavani.

“No information was received from the victim. This is special in this case. Her friend gave us most of the information. That too is incomplete. The case is now being investigated using technology,” Sood added.

On 24 August, an MBA student studying in Mysuru was allegedly gangraped by four men and her friend was assaulted near Chamundi Hills. The women, riding pillion with her friend, was on her way back from Mysuru’s Chamundi Hills, which is a popular tourist destination.

Earlier on Saturday, Karnataka Home Minister Araga Jnanendra said that the police have successfully cracked the case.
